Safari Gaiters – A small piece of gear with a big impact
As hunters, we have always known and appreciated gaiters. They reliably protect against thorns, brambles, moisture and dirt and are simply part of the basic equipment for many of us when heading out into the field. On safari, they serve the same purpose – just against a different set of nuisances.
When walking through the African bush, you quickly notice that fine sand, dry grass, seeds and small thorns have a way of finding their way into your shoes and trouser legs. Our Safari Gaiters reliably close the gap between your shoes and trousers, allowing you to focus fully on the experience instead of constantly shaking sand out of your shoes.
Another advantage is that gaiters make it more difficult for ticks and other crawling insects to get underneath your trouser legs. At the same time, they protect your ankles from scratches caused by dry undergrowth and thorny plants – a small piece of equipment with a big practical benefit.
Lightweight, durable and field-tested
Our Safari Gaiters are deliberately lightweight, making them comfortable to wear even in high temperatures. At the same time, they are robust enough for daily use in the bush and stay securely in place without restricting movement.
Safari gaiters are worn over the trousers.
The correct fit is:
- The trouser leg sits inside the gaiter
- The gaiter covers the lower part of the leg and the upper section of the shoe
- The top should fit snugly enough to prevent sand, grass and insects from easily getting inside, without restricting blood circulation
The reason is simple: anything coming from outside – sand, seeds, thorns, grass or ticks – encounters the gaiter first and cannot easily get between the trousers and the shoe.
For safaris in Africa, many experienced guides additionally tuck their trousers into their socks or wear long safari socks. With gaiters, this is usually no longer necessary, as they already provide reliable coverage of the transition between trousers and shoes.
Their colour perfectly complements our safari collection, making them a functional addition to the outfit as well as a stylish one.
